JEFFREY R. TOFF has practiced law for over 33 years. He graduated from University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1973 with a BA degree in Political Science and minors in philosophy and psychology. He graduated from Western State University School of Law in Fullerton, CA in 1976, receiving a Juris Doctorate of Law. While in Law School, Mr. Toff received the American Jurisprudence awards for excellence in Torts and Evidence. On June 27, 1990 he received a lifetime teaching credential from the California Community Colleges Board. Mr. Toff is licensed to practice law before all of the courts of the state of California.

Mr. Toff grew up in a legal family. His father, Melville A. Toff, was an outstanding trial attorney and lecturer, well respected by judges, attorneys and the communities throughout Northern California. Melville Toff was known for his innovative jury trial techniques and expertise in the art of cross examination. Many of Melville Toff’s successful jury trials were affirmed by the California Appellate and Supreme Courts. The case of Stanford Daily Newspaper vs. City of Palo Alto which Melville Toff won at the trial level was successfully appealed all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Toff’s brother, Ronald Toff, was recently appointed to be a Superior Court Judge with Santa Clara County after a very successful trial practice in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Jeffrey was born in San Francisco and grew up in Santa Clara County. He began working part-time in his father’s law office while Jeffrey was still in high school. Jeffrey continued working in his father’s law office while Jeffrey attended college and law school. When Jeffrey graduated from law school in 1976, he began working full time for the Law Firm of Toff, Toff, Newton & Toff.
Mr. Toff, and his wife of 30 years, Velita Worden, moved to Nevada City, California in 1980 and started a law practice in Nevada County, CA. After a short period of practicing in the area of general civil litigation, Jeffrey limited his practice to bodily injury and workers’ compensation cases only. Today, Jeffrey continues to limit his practice solely to representing injured clients. Mr. Toff has dedicated his practice to representing the injured victim. He is well known in the legal community and is listed in Super Lawyers of Northern California. He has served as an officer and director on multiple civic, charitable and homeowner associations. He enjoys hiking, archeology and raising his Irish Wolfhound.
Mr. Toff has been privileged to have SUSAN GOMES working for his law firm since 1997. Susan is an outstanding legal assistant and has been working in the fields of bodily injury and workers’ compensation almost her entire career. Susan clearly understands the ins and outs of maneuvering clients through the complexities of medical and insurance regulations. She clearly understands the the legal principles pertaining to the claims of our clients and competently and professionally negotiates with attorneys and insurance adjusters.
